In this Application review, I will review 3 powerful jailbreak app for the iPad to add more applications in the iPad & Switch between applications running at the background.

Iconoclasm allows you to have custom numbers of application & custom layouts of your icons per page, you can choose to make different page with different layouts or set it uniformly across all pages.

Install Iconoclasm by purchasing from cydia download & install

Search for the layout you want e.g. 7×6 or 7×7 etc. in cydia & download & install

Go General settings and you find it in the Extensions on the left side.

Infiniboard allows you to have unlimited number of applications installed within a single page as you can slide up & down the springboard!

Install Infiniboard by purchasing from cydia download & install

Go General settings and you find it in the Extensions on the left side.

Drag more applications into a SINGLE page and see the magic!

Circuitous allows you to switch applications efficiently by toggling it & select applications that are running at the background. (Note: You need free cydia app call “backgrounder” to run applications at the background)

Install Circuitous by purchasing from cydia download & install

Go General settings and you find it in the Extensions on the left side.

Set your Dock Activation to “Double Press” the Home Button.

Set your “Favorite App” accordingly

Go out & double tap your home button to see it in action!

Note: The downside of Circuitous is this is not true multitasking as the apps which potentially can drain your battery faster. (iPad have plenty).

Enjoy these wonderful jailbroken applications & to me it’s worth the money.

SNES-HD is a Full screen High Definition Super Nintendo Emulator for the iPad and it’s sick! I mean it’s the best there is on the Emulator since the iPhone version SNES4iPhone which is great but got blocked with the buttons.

This mod even have iPhone as an wireless control, some more the iPhone volume buttons are being mapped to the L & R buttons for kicks!

The save state features is cool and for those people who cannot save in their emulators, try changing the file permission to 777 to enable read, write & execute with “Recurse into all directories” using Filezilla to SSH into iPad.

If you combine this to TVOut2 and connect to the TV via the VGA cable, you can play it over the BIG SCREEN!

It’s a dream comes true people, suddenly you have unlimited Super Nintendo games at your disposal

Enjoy!

I had been learning objective C for a few weeks and even bought the iPhone development program to test out my application on the device and tried all kinds of legal updates pushed to me via Apple but the latest iPhone OS 4.0 Beta had cause lot’s of headaches to my iPhone 3G.

If you are a developer & had paid for the iPhone Development Program, go to Apple Development Portal now you can see that they had a link to download iPhone OS 4.0 Beta for 3Gs & 3G.

Naturally being an inquisitive developer and wanted to know every detail of the new OS for testing, I downloaded the 3G version of the iPhone OS 4.0.

I seriously had forgotten the phrase “Curiosity Kills The Cat”

I faced a couple of problems firstly, iPhone 3G DO NOT HAVE most of the iPhone OS 4.0 features such as multitasking and etc (Due to agreement to the developer program I cannot reveal what does not work for now) and the issue of insufficient memory crops up EVERY FEW Minutes especially playing games such as “WE RULE” and half my apps do not work.

So, the quest to downgrade my iPhone OS to 3.1.3 started.

First, I encounter missing download from apple for the legal copy of OS 3.1.3 and only left with OS 3.2 (iPad) and OS 4.0 available for download but google found me a variety of download sources of iPhone 3G version of OS 3.1.3.

One link I found is from http://www.redmondpie.com

I downloaded the OS 3.1.3 for 3G and proceed to restore from iTunes by pressing OPTION + Restore button on iTunes

Happily I went for a bath and came back and to my horror, it stuck at an error code 1015!! >_<

Then google came back with a solution of using “BlackRa1n” the jailbreak option…but wasn’t BlackRa1n not ready for 3.1.3?

Hmmm Without much consideration & out of desperation I tried downloading it from www.blackra1n.com (mac version) and clicking the “Make it rain”

My iPhone 3G screen went black and the Blackra1n app seems to be telling me that once the iPhone reboot it should be OK!

I waited seems like eternity and gave up and pressed the HOME + POWER button to shut down and POWER Button the boot back up.

Then my iTunes detected my iPhone and MIRACULOUSLY my iPhone 3G Slide to unlock screen APPEARED! WOOHOO!

I slide to unlock my iPhone 3G and find all my apps disappeared and with more digging found out the 3.1.3 is installed properly.

From the iTunes, it shows normal detection and I managed to initiate my syncing of data by pressing the “Sync” button.

Step By Step Instruction

Download iPhone OS 3.1.3 for your device here

Option + click Restore Button on iTunes

Browse & select the iPhone OS 3.1.3

Restore and encounter error code 1015

Download Blackra1n application (mac) here

Click on Blackra1n & click “Make it rain”

Your iPhone will black screen for some time, ignore it & Press and Hold HOME + POWER button on your iPhone

Press your Power button to turn it back on

Force quit Blackra1n application

iTunes will detect your iPhone as normal don’t panic wait for iPhone slide to open bar to appear

Do not restore from back up but click the “Sync” button on iTunes instead

Wait for all your data, applications, music & etc to transfer over (Takes a LONG TIME)

When syncing is completed, unplug the cable and watch your iPhone reboot to apple logo and back to slide to unlock screen!

Your iPhone 3G successfully downgraded from OS 4.0 to OS 3.1.3

Disclaimer Warning: Do the above only when really necessary & I am not responsible for any damage & loss of property or lives in any event you chose to follow my desperate measures written above. However, when times like this we all need is some help and hopefully the above can help you.

Note: I am not sure if your iPhone are jailbroken after the steps above so use it at your own risk

UPDATE: I am not sure if Spirit Jailbreak can essentially do the same or not…but anyone successfully downgrade to 3.1.3 from 4.0 do share your story.

NOTE: Do note that the above are done with iTunes 9.1.1 hence not sure what’s the different with the latest iTunes 9.2

You can download iTunes 9.1.1 (Mac) (Window 32bit / 64bit) & downgrade iTunes instructions.

This is a iPhone/iPod Touch Trick on how to make more than 11 pages of Applications which breaks the iPhone’s limit on the number of pages on the iPhone/iPodTouch.

Steps:

 1. First over some of the default iPhone apps to the last page of the home screen.
2. Take and drag one the icons from the 10th home screen page to the 11th home screen. This would force the last icon at the bottom-right to disappear from that home screen page.
3. Download an iPhone app after that to fill that empty space created on the 10th home screen.
4. After that you will see a miracle!! You will notice that the 12th home screen which will have all the iPhone apps that weren’t visible until then

If you have tricks that is amazing feel free to add in the comment below and I shall credit you as the contributor!

Zombie Attack! Second Wave is one of the most unique Tower Defense Game in the Apple App Store!

Many people love the complexity of the game with unique turrets such as Cannon, Flamethrower, Pulsewave, Rifle, Chopps, Quakemaker and Decoy!

There are also plenty of different types of zombies that react differently with different turrets & situations!

Beheaded zombies don’t see the HERO but it also don’t see the DECOY turret rendering it useless hence Turrets that decapitate zombies such as Chopps & Rifle are best left at the REAR Near the Base.

In this game play video, I did not use Chopps & Quakemaker as they does have smaller Range than the rest of the turrets.

Legend

Do you want to run multiple applications on your iPhone? Envy other smart phones that can switch between applications seamlessly?

Now you CAN!!

However, these are two free application for the jailbroken iPhones or iPod touch hence do proceed with your own risk.

(Warning: Remember to change your OpenSSH password if you ever have OpenSSH installed.)

Download Kirikae & Backgrounder from cydia store

Set both controls to “Press Home and hold” to activate or toggle

Set your favorite applications in Kirikae so that you can select them quickly

Press & Hold your Home Button To activate the Kirikae App Switcher

Go to your favorite tab and run your app to your hearts content

Repeat for your other apps.

The backgrounder toggle enable or disable the application from running in the background hence a bit tricky when trying to access Kirikae as it will toggle disabling of the backgrounder for that particular application. However, you can re-able the backgrounder easily and quickly as shown in the video.

Pros

Able to switch between your favorite applications quickly and efficiently without too much delay. (My usual apps are camera, photogene, tweetie 2, iPod, MobileRss)

Reduce the loading time for opening applications that are already running at the background by at least 3 seconds, for example the camera app and further time saved without the need to search for your favorite applications in your springboard.

Good for time sensitive actions such as reporting events/news/blogs that requires fast application switching such as Qik/Ustream video streaming will open much faster if it’s already running in the background.

Excellent for iPhone 3Gs

It’s completely FREE from cydia!

Cons

For older generation iPhone may not have sufficient memory and can potentially crash the applications all at once suddenly if you load too many applications in the background.

The battery may drain much faster for internet radio or anything that uses the internet or GPS constantly, it will heat up the iPhone or iPodtouch to a hand boiling or pocket warming heat.

Favorite apps not arrangeable

Only Jailbroken iPhone can use these free application.

Overall, I totally recommend this application for anyone with jailbroken iPhone!

Yes! Now it’s out in the cydia store pricing at US$5 to show off to your friends that you can finally use your iPhone 3G/3Gs and 2nd Generation iPod Touch or later as a portable computer!!

This is one of the most wonderful application that arrived in the world of iPhone geeks & jailbroken community, I do hope it will becomes a legalize app in the appstore one day.

In the mean time I don’t mind paying US$5 for a functional application with (hopefully more functionality coming in the future).

BTstack Keyboard only works on jailbroken iPhone 3G(S) and all iPod touch devices with Bluetooth support. It does not work on the iPhone 2G yet, but is not impossible to make it run on this device as well. It is available via the Cydia Store.

According to the developer site, currently It works with all Bluetooth HID keyboards. So far, we have positive feedback for:

Apple Bluetooth Keyboard

Dell Axim Executive Keyboard

Freedom mini keyboard

Freedom Universal2 (make sure you are in HID mode)

Frogpad

KeySonic 340BT

Logitech diNovo Edge

Logitech diNovo Media Desktop

Logitech MX5000

Matias Folding Bluetooth Keyboard

Microsoft Bluetooth Mobile Keyboard 6000

Nokia SU-8W

Palm Wireless keyboard 3245WW

Think Outside Stowaway Universal

Do check out the developer site for future updates on more compatible bluetooth keyboards.

What’s working

All alphabetical keys (A to Z)

All shift-enable symbols (e.g. #$%^&* etc.)

Shift keys

Enter

Numeric keys (1234..)

Arrow keys

Backspace

Esc (exit out of text editing page)

What’s lacking at the moment

Tab

Caplock

Copy & Paste

Function keys (F1 to F12)

Delete Keys

Arrow keys to move websites scroll bars

Pros

Able to use your iPhone 3G/3Gs and 2nd gen iPod Touch as a portable computer

No more Net Books!!

Able to combine extra battery solutions for your iPhone & keyboard to complete a dream of mobile warriors

First few hundreds in the world to use bluetooth keyboard to type on your iPhone be very proud

Cons

Still lot’s of functionality can be added so hopefully the developer can add in soon!

If you did not load cydia fully you get to pay fake $0.99 instead & get an error but works after paying another $5

Costly bluetooth keyboard

Only able to use it sitting down for now until someone thinks of a way to type standing up LOL

Currently only available in the jailbroken iPhones 3G/3Gs and iPodTouch leaving most people unable to get this cool app immediately
